說故事技巧：
作者以歌的方式寫文，書末也附上了歌譜，可以唱給孩子聽。不過，因為作者寫動物們上船的句子和《The Ants go Marching》（這是Barney的簡單版，但曲調是完整的）的歌詞相似，因此配著唱也有趣：

The animals came in one by one,
and Japheth played the big bass drum.

The animals came in two by two,
the alligator lost his shoe.

這本書所畫的是舊約傳道書（Ecclesiastes 3:1-8）裡的幾段經文：

1954年Pete Seeger把這段經文改寫成"Turn! Turn! Turn!"由The Byrds合唱團唱紅。
